Where to go on holiday in April
Thailand
The Thai New Year Festival of Songkran is what attracts many visitors to Thailand in April. Get involved with what is essentially a giant water fight. From the huge street parties in Bangkok to the celebrations on islands such as Koh Samui you will experience something truly unique.
It is always our personal choice to start our holiday among the hustle and bustle of busy Bangkok and then spend the latter part exploring the beautiful islands. Although some of the islands are getting slightly over commercialised now and filled with the same touristy shops you see everywhere if you choose wisely you can certainly avoid this.
The high end hotels that are more off the beaten track still maintain that romantic allure that you associate with Thailand, the arrival at your hotel in a speed boat as you see it coming into view amidst the palm trees is still very much on offer.
Zambia
Less well known than neighbouring Botswana and Tanzania, Zambia is where you will find the beautiful Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and experience the mighty Victoria Falls plunge majestically into the narrow Batoka Gorge.
Zambia is considered one of the most beautiful, friendly and varied countries in Africa. With a relatively low volume of tourism, you can focus on superb experiences, combining action – packed safaris and game drives with luxury laid-back beach retreats. And, with some of the most densely populated game areas in the region you almost be sharing in a little known secret destination.
Seychelles
There are very few destinations to rival the Seychelles for upmarket, luxurious and exclusive hotels and islands. Given the geographical location of the Seychelles it is often hard to predict its weather pattern but the months of April and May are certainly said to give it a break from the Trade Winds that blow across the island. The winds blow the seaweed across the beaches, so if you are looking for picture perfect beautiful beaches then avoiding the winds is a must.
With low winds the temperatures are often at their highest in April and visibility for snorkelling or diving is great.
Bali
Whilst some of the best weather happens in May for Bali and Lombok, our advice would be to go there before the rush. It is sadly well documented that Bali is to Australia what some of the well known European destinations are to the UK in the summer months. As such, certainly Ubud can become overcrowded and not the idyllic location you were hoping for.
A stay in Candi Dasa puts you in easy reach of the cultural sites, indigenous villages and some of the best trekking on the island. Whilst not feeling overrun, there is also a wealth of great boutique and luxury hotels to choose from and delicious wellness spas where relaxation and pampering is the order of the day.
Antigua
Friendly, quiet, welcoming, and relaxed, Antiqua is your perfect choice for an April Caribbean getaway. Not as popular as some of its neighbouring islands for ‘Spring Break’ or the school holidays. April sees the end of the high season across the Caribbean and Mexico and still has warm days and lots of sunshine.
With 365 beaches there is no shortage of places to escape other people and feel like it is just the two of you. But, for breath-taking beauty, it is Jumby Bay where the discerning traveller goes. It is a private retreat just six minutes by boat from the coast of Antigua. Jumby Bay is a world all its own. As home to a preserve for hawksbill sea turtles, Jumby’s beaches are pristine, bucolic and tranquil, paradise found
