Best Luxury Holiday Destinations for 2024
Where are you looking forward to travel to next year?
We think in 2023, travellers will be reconnecting to the best holiday destinations in a deeper, more authentic way; finding new ways to discover and explore and looking for the points of difference which define not just a good holiday but a truly memorable trip.
These are the places that we think are definitely worth a visit in 2024 (and beyond).
South Africa
There are many reasons why South Africa is great as a travel destination from the UK. With no time difference we know many people that despite its long flight will go for only 4 or 5 days, especially during our winter months if you are looking for some sunshine.
There are huge choices of things to do from the many Safari Lodges to the famous Winelands, not to mention the culture and magnificent beaches.
There are lots of self drive options in the region and with so many safari lodges being so remote and the option for private game drives you can keep to your own family bubble.
The Maldives
As a perfect year round destination it is difficult to pick a ‘best time to go’ but with guaranteed high temperatures it makes for great sunshine during our winter months. It is a place that needs no introduction, a desert-island dream where tiny islands are scattered like jewels across the ocean, each one surrounded by a turquoise lagoon. Typically thought of as a honeymoon or romance destination the islands are surprisingly family friendly and a trip in March guarantees to miss any school holidays.
The hotels choices here are varied and you can find anything from tiny boutique hideaways with just a handful of rooms to larger, all inclusive resorts with abundant facilities; authentic, rustic retreats to cool and contemporary hotels; and simple beachfront bungalows to the most exclusive overwater pool villas. If you go for longer than a week we would recommend staying at more than one island to give you a different feel for what The Maldives has to offer.
Costa Rica
With more of us starting to think about how you can live more sustainably or travel in a more conscious way, Costa RIca could tick those boxes for you. As one of the most bio-diverse countries in the world, one quarter of it’s land is protected and it is home to almost 250 species of mammals and more than 900 kinds of birds. There is every chance that you will find playful spider monkeys, colourful macaws, lazy sloths, vibrant toucans and sunbathing iguanas right outside your door.
As a great year round destination it is geared to those people that love the outdoors, from bridges suspended in the forest canopy, to experiencing the thrill of white water rapids or glamping under the stars on picture perfect beaches. Or, just pure relaxation in one of the ultra luxurious hotels.
It is possible to experience the whole country from coast to coast in 2 weeks, on either a fly drive (with you own driver or self drive) or take a few internal flights if you prefer.
Some of the must sees on your trip are, exploring the labyrinth of canals with a local guide in Torteguero National Park on the Northern Caribbean Coast. Arenal volcano is Costa Rica’s most active volcano and many would argue that your trip is not complete unless you have taken in this magnificent sight. This is also a great base for exploring the La Fortuna village and waterfall. All this exploring can be combined with a few lazy days on the beach at Manuel Antonio.
Slovenia
Enchanted forests, mountains, lakes and castles, as well as fairytale and folk heroes are just some of the treasures of this less obvious holiday destination. It’s a gem just waiting to be discovered and so perfect for visiting before tourism really takes a grip. It’s another country that has a big focus on its sustainability. Much lesser visited than some of its neighbouring countries of Italy and Croatia but no less stunning. Perfect as a shorter break from the UK as an unhurried holiday experience.
Lake Bled is arguably what it is most known for, but the country is also steeped in history so there’s plenty of opportunity to step back in time to castles, knights and medieval kingdoms.
If food and gastronomy are more what you are looking for, the Michelin Starred Restaurants and the old world wine making are another attraction for this up and coming country.
Tanzania
In Tanzania, spotting your safari big 5 is almost guaranteed. With up-and-coming regions beyond the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, there are more reasons than ever to consider it.
Galapagos Islands
Marine Iguanas, Giant Tortoises and Blue-Footed Booby are just some of the famous inhabitants of the Galapagos Islands. Combined with a trip to beautiful Ecuador, this is a true, once in a lifetime, experience.
